T
he last decade has seen a paradigm shift in the way resources are allocated, world over. There has been a gradual predominance of market-determined allocation, which has led to the emergence of a competitive environment and global economy.


With the development of modern technology the concept of education has totally changed. Education is now becoming a dynamic process and every day one has to keep pace with the advances in technology. In this era of cutthroat competition and enormous amount of technological explosion, a mere degree oriented course is not competent enough to secure good opportunities in future.

Anand Pharmacy College is one such institution which aims at not only providing good quality Pharmacists but also aims at the overall development of the students. Apart from usual class room sessions, students are also groomed and encouraged to participate in various activities viz. paper and seminar presentations, quizzes, workshops, poster competitions etc. A major emphasize is given on Guest lectures from competent visiting faculties, dignitaries, academicians, consultants and industry practitioners. Students are being guided and supported for GATE exam preparation through in-house exam preparation module containing more than 10000 questions. Extra curricular activities are also being given adequate weight age.

Anand Pharmacy College, Anand is one of the leading college amongst Gujarat based self financed Pharmacy Educational Institutions. The institute is conducting All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi approved B. Pharm course since 1998 with intake capacity of 60 student and M. Pharm (Pharmacology) since 2004 with intake capacity of 10 students per year. The institute is affiliated with SARDAR PATEL UNIVERSITY, Vallabh Vidyanager & Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi.

The smooth running and progress of the institute is the result of the continuous guidance and contribution of expert opinion of Governing Body members of the Institute.

Students of final B. Pharm are encouraged to present abstracts (which should not be a copy of an abstract given on the top of any article) of articles appearing in the pharmacy related journals.This practice helps students to:
Getting acquaintained with the journals available in the pharmacy field.
To differentiate between the type of various article published in journals like research article, review article, newsletters etc.
Understand, prepare and present an abstract of the research made.
Have an exposed to different types of research going on in the pharmacy field.
Increase in quantity and quality of knowledge.
 

Students are also made to explore their instincts in terms of small prejects, which are perfect blend of knowledge and creativity eg.

Organization of visits to relevant institute
 
Visits are not only organized to the industries but also to institutes of relevance in terms of pharmacy curriculum like Prathma Blood Bank , Agricultural Institutes and National Dairy Developvment Board .
Students club activity
 
The exercise of this club aims at providing the expression to student’s ideas and views and explores their creative instincts. The club is successfully publishing a student magazine entitled “AWAKE”.
 

5ACTIVITIES

Apart from regular classroom sessions student are being groomed through various activities viz. quizzes, regular seminar and paper presentations, abstract presentations, various state and national level competition, guest lectures, workshops and conferences etc.

“Students were also encouraged and motivated to actively participate in various events like Cartoon sketching, Scientific models creation, Rangoli competition, Cultural activities, Guessing game, Essay, Quizzes and Elocution competition and sports event”

Guest lectures, state level conferences and workshops are organized on regular basis for continuous education of students and staff members.

Annual day celebrations include the prize distribution to the students securing first rank in the final examination and highest marks in individual subjects followed by a cultural program.



The best cultural program on the annual day celebration is appreciated yearly in the form of rotating shied by the college.


Every year, Institute organizes an elocution competition on themes like:
Pharmacists in healthcare management of children
Pharmacists for promotion of future, free of tobacco
Role of pharmacists – Rational drug use

 

5SOCIETAL INTERACTION OF THE INSTITUTION

Students at the institute are also nurtured to participate in various activities which are beneficial to our society to imbibe in them the feeling of social well being

 

At a regular interval of a year, college successfully organizes a blood donation camps at the institute with joint collaboration of Prathma Blood bank, Ahmedabad, Indian Pharmaceutical Association – Vallabh Vidyanagar Branch or Lions club of Karamsad. On an average 80 bottles of blood is being collected every year to help the needy patients and in turn the society.

A one-day Diabetes Hypertension Check up camp was organized in October, 2002 in joint collaboration with Anand Pharmacy Alumni association. The event was successful for imparting knowledge and awareness regarding two most prevalent diseases and to provide necessary orientation to the students of pharmacy regarding one of the many responsibilities of their profession.

Dr. Mahadev, from USA a community Pharmacist delivered a lecture and guided the staff and students to formulate the breast cancer awareness club. Extensive literature and one CD has been accumulated and are being utilized to educate the students and staff of Anand Pharmacy College. Future plans are to organize small female gatherings and educate them regarding the gravity of the problem and giving them simple techniques to diagnose the disease at an early stage and hence overcome the disease.

A one-week massive celebration was organized during the National Pharmacy week in the year 2003. The theme for the week was “Role of pharmacists in promoting tobacco free future”. All sorts of events Viz. surveys, Poster competitions, Dramas in different schools and colleges and guest lectures was successfully carried out by the students and institute during the week.
