SHORT TERM CERTIFICATE COURSE ON BIOSTATISTICS IN PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE

Anand Pharmacy College is running certificate course on Biostatistics in Pharmaceutical Science in association of Gujarat Technological University Centre for Continuing Education (GTU-CCE). The course aims to enable students, academicians and industry professionals to enhance their knowledge related to fundamental concepts of pharmaceutical statistics and quality by design implementing in pharmaceutical process and product development. This certificate course offers the combined knowledge of theoretical and practical in relevant areas of quality concept in product development and data analysis. This certificate program emphasizes participatory learning which encompasses assignments, group discussions and hands-on training using Microsoft excel, Design of Expert, SPSS, Minitab, PROSIM Graph pad software and other important tools.

FORMULATION DEVELOPMENT MODULE

This module will provide valuable insight behind the principles and factors which are considered for modern pharmaceutical product development. Conventional oral solid dosage form has become integral element of generic pharmaceutical industry. This course will summarize the basic formulation aspect, selection of excipient, instrument operation and industrial perspective for the development of conventional oral solid formulation. This course also includes hands on training of instrument as well as the report writing and searching for the literature in detail.

QUALITY CONTROL, QUALITY ASSURANCE AND REGULATORY ASPECTS OF PHARMACEUTICALS

Quality assurance is a set of activities intended to establish confidence that quality requirements will be met. It is one part of quality management. The quality assurance function should be a cross functional activity in which all functional departments play a specific role in planning for and analysing quality. Quality control is considered part of the quality functions. It is a regulatory process through which each department measures the actual quality performance, compares it with the standard, and acts on the difference. In this module, the students will able to handle sophisticated instruments along with theoretical knowledge of instruments, overview of QC, QA and regulatory aspects of pharmaceutical industry, importance of good documentation practice etc. Regulatory Affairs plays a crucial role in the pharmaceutical industry and is involved in all stages of drug development and also after drug approval and marketing. In this highly regulated environment, regulatory affairs play a critical role not only as the interface with health agencies and as a link between different departments in the company but also as the leading department to provide strategic advice on extremely difficult decisions through the life of a drug.

BASIC TECHNIQUES IN EXPERIMENTAL PHARMACOLOGY

To conduct pharmacological experiments in animals, the students are required to learn various skills like animal handling, drug administration and blood collection techniques, minor surgeries in animals etc. In this module, the students will learning all these skills along with theoretical knowledge of animal ethics, preclinical protocol preparation etc. Upon completion of the course, the students shall be able to know laboratory animal handling, Administer drugs and collect blood from animals, perform euthanasia, do animal breeding, perform surgeries on animals, perform necropsy and harvest organs, prepare protocol for preclinical studies.

3D printing

3D printing in education has a wide variety of important uses in Pharmacy. 3D printing also provides many opportunities to aid visual and practical learning across the sciences. The primary level course comprises an understanding of 3D Printing Technology, its applications, materials used in the 3D printing domain. It covers understanding of different technologies in the 3D Printing Technology domain as well as hands-on designing software, manufacturing software, and FDM 3D Printer machine andits slicing software. Institute has also collaborated with US Institute of 3D Technology (USA)to run the course. 

HPLC and HPTLC-Hands on training

Analytical techniques such as chromatography are dominant research tools in the pharma sector. The short term training program is designed as a step by step guide to operating a HPLC and HPTLC Instruments. It covers not only the theoretical principles of them but it details all the practical steps involved in preparing samples and analysing them on both instruments in the lab. The training program covers all the steps from lab safety, to the science behind HPLC and HPTLC, practical video demonstrations of instruments and software operation and calculation and reporting of results of the analysis.

Pharmacovigilance

Pharmacovigilance also known as drug safety describes the collection, analysis, monitoring, and prevention of adverse effects in drugs and therapies. Pharmacovigilance is concerned with two outcomes- safety and efficacy. It touches on almost every aspect of the drug lifecycle from preclinical development to post market surveillance-making it one of the most fundamental functions within life science companies.  

As Pharmacovigilance and Clinical Research are becoming an important part of drug development as it deals with the patient’s safety, keeping this in mind APC has introduced certificate course in Pharmacovigilance in online mode. Course offered provides in-depth knowledge and understanding of the FDA, EU-EMA, and ICH regulations for drug safety and pharmacovigilance and ADR reporting.

Quality by Design (QbD)

Substantial business benefits are emerging from industry when Quality by Design (QbD) principles are used for new and existing drug products yielding reduced operating costs, enabling significantly more efficient manufacturing processes and better positioning companies to meet increasing regulatory expectations. FDA also appears to be accelerating the QbD push, suggesting that ANDAs for generic drugs and NDA should have QbD elements. DoE is extensively used for the implementation of QbD in both research and industrial settings. Anand Pharmacy College has been providing hands on training and case based DoE analysis to leading Pharma companies and academic institutes since five years.

Finishing School cell and Training and placement cell, APC provides a wide range of educational resources and tools for the students of final year B. Pharm, M. FEHP course has been implement by APC targeting the soft skills of the students of first and second year. As students from various educational medium background take admission, they find the language transition quite challenging.  FEHP course help them to navigate these challenges by helping them to sharpen their soft skills incorporating wide variety of personality traits, communication and people skills, social attitudes and emotional intelligence, as well as language skill. These core skills will help students to gain confidence and realise their full potential.
